Bucks Straw Purchaser Had Been Putting Guns On Streets For Years: DA

A Bucks County man had been making straw purchases of firearms before illegally reselling the guns on the streets for over a decade, authorities say.

Frederick Cornelius Brown Jr. of Croydon was making straw purchases to get firearms in the hands of criminals since 2011, prosecutors claim.

Frederick Cornelius Brown Jr., 63, of Croydon, was convicted in a Bucks County court on 34 counts of illegal firearm transferring and knowingly falsifying documents, said state Attorney General Michelle Henry in a release.

As far back as 2011, Henry said Brown purchased as many as 17 guns which he then illegally transferred to others. Not a single one of the weapons had been reported missing, stolen, or legally transferred to another owner, officials added.

In the 12 years since, three of the guns purchased by Brown ended up in police hands during criminal investigations, the Attorney General said. "Many" of the firearms were 9mm Taurus G2C handguns, a preferred model for traffickers due to its relatively low cost and widespread availability, she noted.

“Far too often, straw-purchased guns end up in the hands of dangerous criminals who have committed crimes that prevent them from legally owning a firearm,” AG Henry wrote.

"Straw purchases fuel the gun violence that plagues too many of our communities. If you buy a gun that ends up in the hands of a violent criminal, my Office will do everything in our power to ensure you face time in prison."

Brown was remanded to the Bucks County lockup where he will remain until his sentencing hearing, prosecutors said.
